She was born July 12, 1913, at Fornfelt (now Scott City), daughter of Alvin A. and Mary Hahn Schlueter. She and Lt. Cmdr. Walter H. Geringer were married July 12, 1945, in Cape Girardeau. Oma Pauline Geringer, 98, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Chateau Girardeau.

She was born July 12, 1913, at Fornfelt (now Scott City), daughter of Alvin A. and Mary Hahn Schlueter. She and Lt. Cmdr. Walter H. Geringer were married July 12, 1945, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1991.

Most of Oma's life was spent in Cape Girardeau, except when Walter's Navy assignments took them to many parts of the world. She had worked at the Woolworth store, a law office and Clemens Jewelry.

Mrs. Geringer was educated at St. Mary's Grade and High School (now Notre Dame Regional), and Steimle Business and Secretarial College. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Council of Catholic Women, Cursillo, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, a life member of Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary, Friends of Saint Francis and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. In 1950, Mrs. Geringer established the Birthday Card Program for senior members of St. Mary's over age 80.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Walter J. and Pauline Schlueter of Crestwood, Mo.; many nieces; nephews; and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia (Roy) Meystedt and Mary Margaret (J.C.) Lynn; and a brother, Charles F. Schlueter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7, with Knights of Columbus rosary following.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Keifer as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Building on Faith Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
