BERNIE, Mo. -- Ollie Bell Mekan, 97, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at the Westwood Hills Health Care Center at Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was born Jan. 14, 1903, in Frisco, Mo., daughter of Louis J. and Effie Caroline Brinson Grim. She married August J.F. Mekan at Dexter, Mo., on Dec. 19, 1921. He died on Feb. 27, 1979...

BERNIE, Mo. -- Ollie Bell Mekan, 97, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at the Westwood Hills Health Care Center at Poplar Bluff, Mo.

She was born Jan. 14, 1903, in Frisco, Mo., daughter of Louis J. and Effie Caroline Brinson Grim. She married August J.F. Mekan at Dexter, Mo., on Dec. 19, 1921. He died on Feb. 27, 1979.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She is survived by four sons, August J.A. Mekan of Bloomfield, Mo.; Donald D. Mekan of St. Louis, Doyle D. Mekan of Arnold, Mo., and Gene E. Mekan of Bernie, Mo.; three daughters, Vivian Mekan Aungst and Wanda Mekan Stephens, both of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Doris Mekan Glass of Bernie; 24 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Grim of Dexter; and a sister, Grace Grim Darby of Essex, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sons, four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie.

Services will be conducted at the Rainey Chapel at 1 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Arvil Edmonds of Bernie officiating.

Burial will be at Chalk Bluff Cemetery in rural Dexter.
