Oliver Wright Swann, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Sept. 4, 1992 at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born March 29, 1918 in Seventy Six, Mo., the son of Albert and Mary Elizabeth Farrar Swann.
He married Josephine Nelson Feb. 22, 1946 in Portland, Maine.
He graduate from the American Technical Society, Automobile Maintenance and Repair in Chicago. He also graduated from the General Motors Diesel Training, Cleveland, Ohio.
Swann served 10 years in the U.S. Navy and was awarded a World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific ribbon, three stars, American Defense A, Philippines Liberation one star, American theater.
He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Clipper, Wilson, Taylor Post.
After his discharge from the Navy, he worked as a diesel mechanic and also a chief engineer on the Mississippi River for Hogland and Ingram Barge Lines.
He is survived by three sons, Terry Swann and Steven Swann, both of Portland, Maine; Russell Swann, Windham, Maine; one daughter, Susan Swann Sargent, Ellsworth, Maine; three sisters, Roberta Cotner, Gertrude Green and Alice Haman, all of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, one brother and three sisters.
Friends may call today from 4-6 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Edwards officiating. VFW ceremonies will be conducted. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery near Farrar.
