CHAFFEE, Mo. — Olga Fluegge Free, 85, of Chaffee died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 22, 1923, at Tilsit, daughter of Heinrich Karl "Martin" and Alma Caroline Macke Fluegge. She and Emmet Free were married Jan. 17, 1948. He died April 16, 2005.
Olga's first job was a cook and caregiver in the 1930s at the Cape County Poor Farm. She later was a machine operator at International Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau. She retired as a housekeeper at Chaffee General Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chaffee.
Survivors include a son, Cliff (Alaine) Free of Las Vegas; a daughter, Marnet Eftink of Jackson; four sisters, Esther Davis of St. Charles, Mo., Ruth Steinhoff of Kirkwood, Mo., Rosamund (Oscar) Welker and Janice (Carl) Newell of Jackson; three grandchildren, Aaron Eftink, Sarah (Vince) Wingo, and John Hager, all of Jackson; a brother, Melvin (Jo) Fluegge of Grover, Mich.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Fay Free of Poway, Calif.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Wayne Schwiesow officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
