ANNA, Ill. -- The funeral for Oel L. Bean of Anna will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crain Funeral Home in Anna. The Revs. Tim Sadler and Steve Wilkinson will officiate. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Bean, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Ill.
He was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Paragould, Ark., son of Charles and Lola Henderson Bean. He and Eloise Yates were married July 5, 1942.
Bean was a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He and his wife also owned and operated Bean Jewelers in Anna from 1965 to 1986.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a deacon many years, had been a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer, and was a lifetime member of American Legion.
Bean served with the 3rd Infantry Division during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Shirley Harris of Anna; a son, Jim Bean of Harlingen, Texas; a sister, Geraldine "Jerri" Dillow of Centralia, Ill.; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
