CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Funeral for Odus Smith of Chaffee will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Dr. Mark Hopkins and the Rev. Ernest Kight Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the chapel after 6 p.m. Friday.
Smith, 83, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Chaffee Nursing Center.
He was born Sept. 12, 1916, at Delta, son of Charles Henry and Lucresia Mahaffey Smith. He and Elizabeth A. Newlin were married Sept. 6, 1952. She died Sept. 19, 1999.
Smith retired as owner/operator of United Oil Co. in Chaffee. He was a member of Chaffee American Legion Post 389.
He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Smith of Jackson; a stepson, the Rev. Ernest Kight Jr. of Abilene, Texas; a stepdaughter, Ruth Hopkins of Anderson, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
