SIKESTON, Mo. -- Nota B. Ables, 86, of Sikeston died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center. Ables was born Sept. 27, 1920 in East Prairie, Mo., daughter of John Wesley and Bird Cooper Dover. She and Cline Ables were married July 27, 1946. He died July 4, 2003...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Nota B. Ables, 86, of Sikeston died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Ables was born Sept. 27, 1920 in East Prairie, Mo., daughter of John Wesley and Bird Cooper Dover. She and Cline Ables were married July 27, 1946. He died July 4, 2003.

She graduated from St. Louis City Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 and spent the next 50 years as a nurse. She served one term as Scott County Democratic Committee Woman and was a former member and President of the Sikeston Civic Club. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Don Ables of Dexter; three daughters, Gretta Walton of East Jordan, Mich., Jo Cavanaugh of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Marilyn Boyce of Sikeston; a sister, Hazel Howe of St. Louis; two brothers, Durward Dover of Oran, Mo., and Veachel Dover of Morehouse; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister and six brothers, one grandson and one great-grandson.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Jeff Posegate will officiate, with interment in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
