JACKSON -- Funeral service for former Cape Girardeau County Coroner and Circuit Clerk Norval "Grub" Short of Jackson will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Lawrence Eatherton will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3838 of Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.

Short, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1993, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 25, 1915, in Jackson, son of M.A. and Katherine Paul Short. He and Shirley Hollenbeck were married July 4, 1961.

Short was coroner from 1941-44, circuit clerk from 1946-54, was a partner in the former Jackson Rock Quarry, and worked at B&B Auto Salvage, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, American Legion here, VFW in Cape Girardeau, and was a former Cape Girardeau County Republican committeeman. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Sgt. David Williams of Tacoma, Wash.; four daughters, Beverly Loucks, Sharon Botello and Carol Locklear of Jackson, Paula Botello of South Bend, Ind.; four brothers, Norman Short of Kalamazoo, Mich., Joe Short of Houston, Texas, Lester Short of Webster Groves, Paul Short of Jackson; a sister, Sarah Faherty of Jackson, and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
