Norman Joseph Schwab, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Cape Girardeau, son of Henry W. and Josephine Schaefer Schwab. He and Virginia L. Schaefer were married Nov. 17, 1945. She passed away Oct. 21, 2010.

Norman graduated from Sikeston High School, received a bachelor's degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University and a master's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

He and Virginia moved to Cape Girardeau in 1949. He taught school at Cape Girardeau public schools, was a counselor several years and served the last 15 years as coordinator of federal projects for the schools. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus St. Vincent's Council 1111, American Legion Post 63, Elks Lodge 639, VFW Post 3838, a past president of Exchange Club, all in Cape Girardeau; and was a member of Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson.

Loving survivors include two sons, Robert (Polly) Schwab of St. Louis and Dr. Steve (Carol) Schwab of Germantown, Tenn.; a sister, Geneva Wyatt of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Dr. Edward T. Schwab of Keithville, La.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a sister, Dorothy Willis; three brothers, J.D. Schwab, James "Pete" Schwab and Robert Schwab.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 6 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bobby Manso officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
