Norman Wesley McElreath, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born July 3, 1917, at Whitewater, Mo., son of Gerald Clyde and Catherine Elizabeth Andrews McElreath. He and Marie E. Exler were married Nov. 20, 1945, in Cape Girardeau.
McElreath was former office manager of Kelso Oil Co. He founded McElreath Insurance Agency in 1955, and in 1970 added real estate services and renamed the business McElreath Realty and Insurance Co.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, former president of Trinity Lutheran Men's Club, former president and secretary-treasurer of the congregation, and chairman of Trinity School Board of Education.
McElreath was former president of Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors, former president of Independent Insurance Agents of Cape Girardeau, former secretary-treasurer of Lutheran Home Board of Directors, member of American Legion Post 63, and lifetime member of VFW Post 3838.
He was a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from July 1941 to October 1945.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth McElreath of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, James McElreath of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Mary Kistner of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Helen Beard of Pekin, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
