Norman J. Fornkohl, 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at Chateau Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 4, 1934, to Henry C. and Mary D. Comer Fornkohl in Egypt Mills. He was baptized Sept. 22, 1935, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Egypt Mills and confirmed Dec. 23, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran. He had six brothers and four sisters. Norman was united in marriage to Betty Brockmire on Sept. 4, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church. They were blessed with a son, Dwayn. Norman was a member of Scriptural Evangelical Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills.

Norman served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1960. He worked for Lawrence Farrow Construction, Standard Oil and Jim Wilson Co., retiring in 1998 after 28 years. He also enjoyed cattle farming with his son.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Fornkohl of Cape Girardeau; and son, Dwayn Fornkohl (Lou Ann Fuller) of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oscar, Glenn, Lawrence, Bobbie Gene, Lester and Delbert; and sisters, Opal, Doris, Mabel and Eva.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Scriptural Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mark Rogers officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Scriptural Evangelical Lutheran Church.
