Norman David Koeppel

Norman David Koeppel, 71, of Shawneetown passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born May 4, 1941, at Cape Girardeau, to Norman G. and Gertrude "Gertie" Dodson Koeppel. He was baptized Aug. 14, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills, and was confirmed April 3, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He married Mildred Doberenz on June 30, 1974, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown.

Norman worked many years as a television repairman at Tinsley Appliance in Cape Girardeau. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown and an accomplished student of the Bible, always looking forward to Wednesday morning Bible study.

He was interesting in vegetable and flower gardening, wood working and clock repair. He especially liked the intricacies of repairing cuckoo clocks. He enjoyed visiting friends at the Pie Bird Café in Fruitland and the Jackson Senior Center.

Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Mildred of Shawneetown; a daughter, Tabatha (Jeremy) Schumer of Perryville, and their two daughters, Ashlyn and Clara; a half brother, George "Butch" (Virgie) Koeppel of Jackson; a half sister, Becky Slay of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Doris (Bill) Weissmueller of Gordonville; a brother-in-law, Raymond (Kim) Doberenz of McKinney, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Gertie and Bill Walter; his father, Norman Koeppel; and a half brother, Billy Walter.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Virgil Kelm officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
