Funeral service for Norma Mildred Sutherland of Cape Girardeau will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Larry Gallamore will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until service time.
Sutherland, 78, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 20, 1919, in St. Louis, daughter of Charles and Pearl Cooper Hartung. She first married Truman Putz July 7, 1937, at Commerce. She later married Dan Sutherland Dec. 23, 1962, in Cape Girardeau. He died March 6, 1972.
Sutherland was a legal secretary for attorney Don Fee five years, and owned and operated a theater in Illmo with her first husband for 10 years.
She was a life member and past president of VFW Auxiliary to Post 3838, member of Elks Ladies, was district president two times and had been national secretary of Crohns and Colitis, and member of National Foundation for Ileitis and Colitis.
Sutherland was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, had been a Sunday School teacher, and was involved in youth activities.
Survivors include cousins, Dan Ligon of Harrisburg, Pa., James Ligon of Suffolk, Va., Frances Pope of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., Paul Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Linda Grachen of North Miama Beach, Fla., and Helen Kavanaugh of St. Louis.
