Norma B. Haertling, 88, of New Wells passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Feb. 26, 1929, in Altenburg, Missouri, daughter of Hugo and Bertha Weber Richter. She and Vernon Haertling were married May 23, 1954. He preceded her in death June 1, 2007.
Norma was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Missouri. In 1991 she and her husband became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Norma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and took great pride in her family. She was an awesome homemaker who mastered countless skills while living and working on the family farm. She spent many hours outside in the garden and with her flowers. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidery.
Survivors include two sons, Stan (Chris) Haertling and Christopher (Amy) Haertling, both of New Wells; three daughters, Glenda (Tom) Nations and Connie (Dan) Peiffer of Jackson, and Bonnie (Bob) Schulte of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, R.J. (Madeline) Schulte, Megan (Matt) Moore, Amanda and Blake Peiffer, Anna and Brett Haertling, and Allison and Jackson Haertling; two great-grandchildren, Landon Schulte and Thomas Moore; two brothers, Edward and Raymond Richter; a brother-in-law, Elmer (Carol) Boehme; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Glenn Haertling; three sisters and a brother; six sisters-in-law; and five brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Eric Longman officiating.
Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Paul Lutheran Church or school or a charity of your choice.
