Nora Strickland

GIPSY, Mo. -- Nora Lene Strickland, 85, of Gipsy passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at the Advance Nursing Center in Advance, Missouri.

She was born Feb. 10, 1932, at Gipsy, the daughter of Allen and Jessie Gilliland Porter.

Nora had been a homemaker. She attended Palmore Church near Zalma, Missouri.

She loved growing flowers. Her family loved her fried chicken and homemade biscuits. She was a great mother and grandmother.

Nora and Marlin Strickland were united in marriage July 3, 1954, at Lutesville, Missouri, and he preceded her in death Aug. 5, 2015.

Survivors include three sons, Jack Strickland of Advance, Jim Strickland of Bloomfield, Missouri, and Tim Strickland of Gipsy; four daughters, Janice Jordan of Morehouse, Missouri, Pamela Gray of Canton, Missouri, Linda Backfisch of Benton, Missouri, and Sheila Walk of McGee, Missouri; two sisters, Minnie Whitner of St. Charles, Missouri, and Dorothy Myers of Gipsy; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Lisa; and two grandsons.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Revs. Larry Underwood and Jonathan Khourie officiating. Burial will follow at Berrong Cemetery near Zalma.
