Nora Virginia Duncan went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Ratliff Care Center, surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old.
She was born May 24, 1922, in Delta to Roy and Rose Gilder. She and Orville Duncan married Dec. 21, 1940, in Cape Girardeau.
A resident of Delta for the majority of her life, Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church of Delta for 75 years. She enjoyed singing in the choir and serving in the nursing home and shut-in ministries. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 69 years.
Two characteristics would be the defining tribute of her life: her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and her unwavering devotion and unconditional love for her children and family.
Virginia is survived by five children, Sharon Kirchhoff and Carol Umfleet, both of Cape Girardeau, Mike (LaDonna) Duncan of Ashland City, Tennessee, David (Barbara) Duncan of De Soto, Missouri, and Mark (Jane) Duncan of Columbia, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years; three infant children; three sisters, Idell Morrison of Cape Girardeau, Wilma Hillis of Broseley, Missouri, and Betty Jo Dunning of Delta; and a grandson, Jeffery S. Umfleet of Calvert City, Kentucky.
Family and friends may gather from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Delta.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Randy Conn officiating. Interment will follow at Kenyon Cemetery near Delta.
Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kenyon Cemetery Fund, First Baptist Church of Delta or the Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the church. Out of town donations may be made to these charities by mail in care of Crain Funeral Home, 829 N. West End Blvd., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
