Roger Lee "Nick" Blankenship, 66, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born June 27, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, to Carrol and Arlene Kropp Blankenship. He and Wanda Mungle were married Aug. 25, 1973.
Nick was a life member of Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838. He also was a member of USA Veterans, VietNow and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Jenny Blankenship (James Garrett); two grandsons, Michael and Gideon Garrett; three stepgrandchildren, Austin, Zachary and Veronica Garrett; his father, Carrol Blankenship; four adopted daughters, Melissa Mason, Katie Shepard (Sam), Christy Young and Brandy Dalton; five adopted grandchildren, Kayla, Shaine and Kayden Barry, Gabrielle Dalton and Brianna Shaw; other relatives; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Troy Truitt officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in New Lorimier Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
