SIKESTON, Mo. -- Nicholas Marshall Potashnick, age 22, of Sikeston died unexpectedly Oct. 27, 2000, in his dormitory room at Twin Towers on the campus of Arkansas State University-Jonesboro, following an acute asthma attack.

He was an agribusiness major.

Nicholas was born May 8, 1978, in St. Louis, son of Morton Douglas Potashnick and Jane Ella Yount Potashnick, both of Sikeston.

He was a 1996 graduate of Sikeston High School. He always loved the outdoors. He was a member of Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a Green Wing in Ducks Unlimited. His favorite pastimes included hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was also an artist who liked to draw and paint. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Besides his parents, survivors include a sister, Heyde Elizabeth Potashnick of Sikeston; a brother, John Douglas Potashnick of Vail, Colo.; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Eugene Nathan Potashnick of Sikeston; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Yount of Sikeston; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000.

Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, with Dr. Jim Davis officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Sandra Schaller. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.

Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Anderson, Nathan Askew, G.W. Gilmore III, Jamie Gooch, Darin Heisler, Tre Holley, Rourke Ohmes and Phillip Tidwell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Bailey, Zach Chambers, Roy Colwick, Jeff Gaddis, Casey Kuppart, Justin Lankheit, Andy McGill, David McKay, Jordan Masters, Brian Montgomery Jr., Tom Nunnelee Jr., Hudson Peters, Gabe Potashnick and Garrett Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Respiratory Care Unit at Missouri Delta Medical Center, 1008 N. Main, Sikeston, Mo., 63801.
