BELL CITY -- Newell Uptain, 82, Bell City Route 1, died Monday, May 24, 1993, at Dexter Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 7, 1910, in Clarksville, Ark., son of John Wesley and Martha Isabell Boen Uptain. He and Lena Amy Wilkins were married Nov. 13, 1938.
Uptain had farmed in the Zalma and Bell City areas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; six brothers, Howard Uptain of St. Louis, Claude Uptain of Prescott, Ariz., Roy Uptain of Quincy, Fla., John Uptain of Oran, Walter Uptain of Weatherford, Texas, Jim Uptain of Hemet, Calif.; two sisters, Katherine Pearson of Lakewood, Calif., and Betty Kelley of Collinston, La.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. The Rev. Ted Stone will officiate, with burial in Forest Hill Memorial Garden near Morley.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
