Nelson Herman Thompson, 75, of Oak Ridge, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 18, 1930, in Oak Ridge, son of the late Virgil and Ada Ruesler Thompson. On Sept. 2, 1954, he was inducted into the United States Army. Nelson Herman Thompson, 75, of Oak Ridge, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 18, 1930, in Oak Ridge, son of the late Virgil and Ada Ruesler Thompson.

On Sept. 2, 1954, he was inducted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged Aug. 21, 1956, as a private first class.

Nelson was a farmer in the Oak Ridge community where he farmed all of his life. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church of Old Appleton, Mo., and a former member of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church, where he was baptized.

Loving survivors include a son, Glenn Thompson of Oak Ridge; a brother, Dale and Betty Thompson of Biehle, Mo; a sister, Gladys and Bob Nitsch of Jackson; stepmother, Lela Thompson of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Linda Thompson of Jackson; three nephews, Brad and Brian Thompson, and Kevin Nitsch; four nieces, Donna Stovall, Darla Hemmann, Brenda Gleason, and Jody Thompson; and 10 great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Thompson.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Susan Hoyle officiating. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery near Oak Ridge. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Goshen Cemetery Fund or to Zion United Methodist Church of Old Appleton.
