KAMPSVILLE, Ill. — Nelson V. Morton, 80, formerly of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at his home in Kampsville.
He was born Oct. 24, 1941, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Clarence P. and Dorothy Webb Morton. He and Carol Reynolds were married April 22, 1962, in Jackson. They had been married 36 years, when Carol passed away Sept. 15, 1998.
Nelson was a 1959 graduate of Jackson High School, where he played football. He honorably served in the Missouri National Guard from 1959 to 1962.
A journeyman pipefitter and member of AFL-CIO No. 420 in Philadelphia, Nelson's last employment was with Strange and Coleman in East St. Louis, Illinois. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Grafton, Illinois.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Terri (Dennis) Brown of Oak Ridge; seven grandchildren, Brittney Emery, Jessica Cook, Dustin Sebastian, Joni (David) Warren, Jeffery (Robin) Brown, Jeromy Pair and Brandi Washer; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lafern Lane of Jefferson City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Mary Morton of Jackson; a very special friend, Charlotte Kearby of Kampsville, and her daughter, Joan Baker of North Carolina; his feline companion, Puff; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Nelson was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a daughter, Kimberly (Darren) Launius.
The Rev. Jimmie Corbin will conduct a graveside service, with full military honors, at 1 p.m. Friday at Old Shiloh Cemetery near Pocahontas.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Arrangements are by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
