Nelle Hemperley, 85, formerly of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the home of a son, John, in Vienna, Va.
She was born July 30, 1927, in Pine Bluff, Ark., daughter of Homer and Pinniah Benson. She was married to her loving husband, Robert Franklin "Bob" Hemperley Jr., almost 55 years before his passing in 2007.
Nelle volunteered at many civic activities to help coach the youth of Cape Girardeau. She was a Cub Scout den mother, president of Hawthorne Elementary PTA and a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church, to name but a few. She was an active member of Lynwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Franklin Hemperley III of Palmetto, Fla., John Lawton Hemperley of Vienna; two granddaughters, Tara and Leigh Anne of Lafayette, La.; and a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and six brothers and sisters.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
