MATTHEWS -- Nell G. Shelby, 89, of Matthews, died Tuesday, June 16, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was born Sept. 9, 1902, in Kentucky, daughter of J.W. and Cora Belle Scott Rather. She and Charlie Shelby were married Dec. 10, 1918, at Matthews. He died Dec. 15, 1963...

MATTHEWS -- Nell G. Shelby, 89, of Matthews, died Tuesday, June 16, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 9, 1902, in Kentucky, daughter of J.W. and Cora Belle Scott Rather. She and Charlie Shelby were married Dec. 10, 1918, at Matthews. He died Dec. 15, 1963.

Shelby was a member of Matthews Nazarene Church.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Shelby of Sikeston, Carl Shelby of Matthews, Marvin Shelby of Honolulu, Hawaii; a daughter, Emma Sloan of Decatur, Ill.; a brother, Clyde Rather of Chino, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. The Rev. D.R. Heitman will officiate, with burial in Matthews Cemetery.
