Nelda Louise Hodge, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Fountain-bleau Lodge.

She was born Dec. 31, 1938, in Campbell, Mo., to Floyd L. and Elva Baker Hodge. She graduated from Malden High School in 1956. She lived in the Bootheel her entire life and worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.

Nelda was very active in the Southeast Missouri Chapter of the Pioneers, including serving as president for a time. She worked on the Kenny Rogers Telethon every year for almost two decades. Upon retirement from Southwestern Bell, she enjoyed traveling with friends, family and her church to places as varied as Branson, Mo., the Grand Ole Opry, Colorado, Nebraska, Alaska and Hawaii. She was very active in Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau before the last years of her life.

She was always telling people to behave themselves and would join in a round of cards if anyone wanted to play. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a little bit of orneriness to share with everyone.

Survivors include a brother, Floyd Hodge of Louisville, Colo.; three nieces, Cindy and Carrie Hodge of Louisville and Cherie (Scott) Kubie of Omaha, Neb.; a great-nephew, Raef Kubie; and a great-niece, Mikayla Hodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden, Mo.

The funeral be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.
