BEDFORD, Ind. -- Verna "Nancy" Mainer passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at IU Health Bedford Campus. Nancy was born Jan. 17, 1939, in Reynoldsville, Illinois, to Lloyd and Minnie Mainer, who preceded her in death. BEDFORD, Ind. -- Verna "Nancy" Mainer passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at IU Health Bedford Campus.

Nancy was born Jan. 17, 1939, in Reynoldsville, Illinois, to Lloyd and Minnie Mainer, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Oma and Freida Mainer and Natalie Boyd, and brothers, James and Everett "Butch" Mainer.

She is survived by her twin sister, Erma Foster of Bedford; sister, Maudie (Thomas) Kaufman of Pekin, Illinois; and special nieces, Lori (Mike) Jarr and Jill Foster-Sallee, as well as several other nieces and nephews.

Nancy graduated from Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake, Illinois, to become a beautician, graduating from cosmetology school in Cape Girardeau.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign War.

Nancy was an animal lover and an avid sports fan, especially her beloved Indiana University Hoosiers. Her family will never forget her red velvet cake at Christmas, and her love for sweets will live on with her special recipes.

A graveside service for Nancy will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday for family and close friends at Cresthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Bedford, with Jim Crane officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to the White River Humane Society of Bedford in honor and memory of Verna "Nancy" Mainer.
