Myrtle Virgie Bassett, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 27, 2006, at her home.
She was born May 8, 1912, in Lutes, Tenn., daughter of Harvey Clarence and Minnie Florence Reautheford Berry. She and Norman Bassett were married Oct. 2, 1932, in Caraway, Ark. He died Nov. 7, 1979.
Mrs. Bassett attended First General Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Rita Bond of Mount Olive, Ill., Mary Lou and Jack Meador of Silva, Mo., Anna and Ray Sanders of Cape Girardeau, Linda and Bill Underwood of Arnold, Mo.; a half sister, Mary Alice Ayers of Waynesboro, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Allen Berry, Alvie Berry, Walker Berry and Rufus Berry; four sisters, Vada Meadows, Ruby Dildine, Bernice Talkington and Cora Terry; a granddaughter, Cristina Anne Underwood; two half brothers, Clarence Berry Jr. and Freddie Ray Berry.
To those who knew her best she was "Granny." Not only was she called that endearing name by her grandchildren, but also by friends of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden, Mo., from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Larry Danieley and Sam Ramdial officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.
The family requests memorials to Pleasantview General Baptist Church at Risco, Mo., or First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
