LYMAN, S.C. -- Lawanna Muriel Walke passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at Ashian Village at Lyman at the age of 97 years.
She was born July 31, 1924, in Jackson to Clarence and Nellie Scheper.
Muriel was in the Jackson High School Class of 1942. She worked at the Malden (Missouri) Army Air Force Training Base during World War II as a telephone operator, where she met her husband, Ted Walke.
They lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, many years. Muriel worked at Bucyers ERAS and retired from General Motors.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Pamm Bessmer; grandchildren, Jenifer Bessmer, Courtney and Lewis Aho, and Arron and Nicole Bessmer; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Doris (the late Dr. Dale) Baker of State College, Pennsylvania; brother, Jimmie "Jim" (Betty) Scheper of Jackson; and many nephews and nieces.
Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Walke; child, Baby Walke; son-in-law, Rudy Bessmer; parents, Clarence and Nellie Scheper; brothers, Clarence Lee Merit "Sonny" Scheper and Robert "Bob" Scheper Sr.; sisters, Juanita Friday and Clarice Brown.
A private burial was held Friday at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with Pastor Jason Shaw officiating.
