PUXICO -- Funeral service for Monroe D. Wilkison of Puxico will be held at 1 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Puxico. The Revs. Steve Smith and Vernon Kneir will officiate, with burial in Puxico Cemetery.

Wilkison, 70, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 1, 1925, in Puxico, son of Oren and Pearl Stewart Wilkison. He and Lotus McClure were married July 5, 1944, in Corning, Ark.

Wilkison was postmaster at Puxico 27 years. He was a board member and currently treasurer of Puxico Development Corp., and was treasurer and board member of Stoddard County Gospel Rescue Mission.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, member and former worshipful master of Masonic Lodge 596 AF&AM,, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry USA, member and past worthy patron of Puxico Order of Eastern Star 422, charter member and past commander of Puxico Memorial VFW Post 7822, and member of National League of Postmasters and served two terms as state president.

Wilkison served in General Patton's Third Army during World War II, and received a Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick Wilkison of Montgomery, Ala., Ed Wilkison of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Neisha Trentelman of Puxico; two brothers, Dean Wilkison of Trinity, Texas, Virgil Wilkison of Macon, Ga.; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.
