Mitchell DeWitt Stafford Jr., 62, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, April 13, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 1, 1939, at Memphis, Tenn., son of Mitchell DeWitt and Minnie Lue Wilson Stafford.
Stafford had served in the Korean War in the Army. He had been a truck driver for UPS in Detroit, Mich. He also drove for the former Wetterau Inc. Stafford was a member of Teamsters Union No. 574. He retired in 1992.
Survivors include his mother of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Michael D. Harris of Dallas, Texas, Jason Stafford of Rolla, Mo., and David D. Haynes of Detroit; three stepsons, Keith O. Haynes and Vincent L. Haynes, both of Dallas, and Deprece A. Harris of Cape Girardeau; six brothers, James Stafford of Detroit, Ben E. Stafford of Jackson, Mo., William C. Stafford of Detroit, Joseph Stafford of Cape Girardeau, Eugene Stafford of Detroit, and Walter J. Stafford of San Juan, Puerto Rico; four sisters, Ann Shares of Cape Girardeau, Viola J. Stafford of St. Louis, Regina A. Jones of Cape Girardeau and Denise Warren of Overland Park, Kan.; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call at Ford & Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery. Full military rite will be conducted by VFW Post No. 3838 and the Missouri Military Honor Guard at the cemetery.
