NEW WELLS, Mo. -- Milton E. Haertling of New Wells died Friday, April 13, 2007, surrounded by his family at the home of his son near New Wells. He was born Oct. 17, 1930, near New Wells, the son of Eldor and Alma Meyr Haertling. He and Marilyn Kasten were married Feb. 24, 1957. She preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2003.
Haertling was a veteran of the Korean War, having been inducted on Sept. 29, 1950, into the U.S. Army and honorably discharged Sept. 10, 1953. During his service time he was stationed in Germany and worked as a mechanic and a wrecker driver. Upon his return from service, he was a truck driver for the former Shawneetown Transfer Co., a sales representative for Micogen Seed Co., and also farmed many years with his brothers Willis and Ellis Haertling near New Wells, raising cattle and row crops. Haertling was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells and served as an elder, treasurer and as president of the congregation for many years. He also served as the president for the Men's Fellowship Club and was a member of the American Legion of Perryville, Mo.
Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Haertling of Altenburg, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Mark Naeger of Perryville; four grandchildren, Jamie (Pat) Lipe of St. Louis, Dustin Martin of Perryville, Kristine and Jason Haertling of Altenburg; a brother, Willis (Thelma) Haertling of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Haertling of Frohna, Mo., Nora Kasten of Cape Girardeau; and a brother-in-law, Gordon Kasten of Cape Girardeau.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a brother, Ellis Haertling.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 15, and after 9 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2007, at the church with the Rev. Walter Patzwitz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with a military honors service by the Perryville American Legion Post No. 133.
