CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Mildred F. Shoaff, 83, of Berwyn died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at Fairview Nursing Home in LaGrange Park.
She was born July 3, 1913, in Carbondale, daughter of Lawson and Alice Davis Fore. She and Carl E. Shoaff were married Feb. 9, 1947.
Shoaff received a bachelor of education degree from Southern Illinois State Normal University in 1935. From 1935-46 she taught at schools in Johnson City; Cannelton, Ind.; Crown Point; and Carbondale High School. She then worked a year for the War Department with the Red Cross in Washington, D.C.
She returned to teaching in 1966, teaching first grade at Grand Tower Elementary School for a year, and then was art teacher at Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake from 1967 until retiring in 1978.
Shoaff was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carbondale, Order of Eastern Star, Illinois Association of Teachers of Journalism, Illinois State High School Press Association, and Carbondale branch of American Association of University Women.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Carl Shoaff Jr. of Berwyn, and Dr. William Shoaff of Palm Bay, Fla.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. John Annable officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. to service time.
