Mildred L. Proffer, 80, of Jackson passed away Friday, April 13, 2012, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

She was born May 22, 1931, in Jackson, daughter of Clyde and Ada Nitsch Reynolds. She and Ben F. Proffer were married March 25, 1951, in Jackson. He passed away Sept. 8, 1989.

Mildred moved from the family farm in Millersville to Jackson in 1988. She worked at the Lutheran Home and Southeast Hospital a total of 30 years, retiring in 2004. She was an avid Cardinals baseball fan, and enjoyed fishing with her sister at Lake of the Ozarks. Mildred was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson.

Loving survivors include two sons, Ben (Vicki Diane) Proffer Jr., Steven Proffer (Lori Long, fiance) of Millersville; two daughters, Donna (Russell) Leadbetter of Millersville, Lisa Proffer of Jackson; a sister, Patsy (Paul) Mathias of Fenton, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Dean Reynolds, and a great-grandson.

Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donald Estes officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Shawnee Hills Baptist Church.
