Mildred Hope Phelps, 88, of Jackson died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson.
She was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Pocahontas, to Hobson Richard and Maudie Mae Cramer Bess.
She and Lynn T. Phelps were married Dec. 20, 1946. Mildred graduated from Oak Ridge High School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
She worked at the former Jackson Dress Factory and Jackson Hosiery Mill. She was a cook at Southeast Missouri State University's dorm cafe and at in the Jackson School District.
She is survived by her husband, Lynn Phelps of Jackson; two daughters, Cheryl (Ron) Whittenburg of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Carole (Doug) Lemonds of Jackson; one brother, Gene Bess of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Ruth Morris of St. Louis; four granddaughters, Heather, Amanda, Danielle and Erika; and eight great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ella, Beatrice, Charlie, John, Harlow, Everett and Riley.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Cramer.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Grant F.C. Gillard officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
