Mildred Hanschen, 92, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born Oct. 5, 1909, in Nez Perce County, Idaho. Her parents were Ernest J. and Hedwig "Hattie" Gerharter Ladreiter. The family moved to Jackson, Mo., in 1916 and were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She attended the church's one-room school through the eighth grade before graduating from Jackson High School in 1927...

Mildred Hanschen, 92, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 5, 1909, in Nez Perce County, Idaho. Her parents were Ernest J. and Hedwig "Hattie" Gerharter Ladreiter.

The family moved to Jackson, Mo., in 1916 and were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She attended the church's one-room school through the eighth grade before graduating from Jackson High School in 1927.

She married Otto M. "Pete" Hanschen Sept. 28, 1933.

Mildred was a bookkeeper for Cape County Savings Bank from 1927-36 before moving to Flat River, Mo., in 1937. She and her husband were active in Trinity Lutheran Church there, and Mildred served two terms as president of the newly formed Iron Mountain Zone Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

She worked for a number of years as a bookkeeper at Texaco Oil Co. in Flat River, then following the death of her husband returned to Jackson in 1982.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Vernon Ladreiter.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John Holcomb; three grandchildren, Lisa Cameron, David Holcomb and Douglas Holcomb; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with funeral service to immediately follow. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Arrangements are by McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Home, or Saxony Lutheran High School.
