TOMS RIVER, N.J. -- Mildred Haman, 95, of Toms River died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Rose Garden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Toms River.

Haman was born in Portageville, Mo., daughter of James O. and Arlie Hufstedler. She and Frank M. Alexiou were married in March 1938. He was killed in July 1945 in World War II in the Philippines. In June 1949, she and Roy Haman were married. He died in February 1972.

She graduated from Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis in 1934. Haman worked for 50 years as a nurse, mostly as an operating room supervisor at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, where she lived. She later became director of nursing at Cape La Croix Manor in Cape Girardeau until she retired in 1983. In March 1993 she moved to New Jersey to be closer to her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Bennett of Manchester, N.J., three grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home in Manchester, N.J.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
