Mildred M. "Millie" Dost, 89, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 3, 1929, in Oak Ridge, daughter of August and Angeline C. Hopfer Mirly. She and Elton O. Dost were married June 14, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown. He passed away July 23, 2000.
Millie was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown. She was an active member of the congregation there, providing her gifts and talents as a Sunday school teacher, an organist at the church since the age of 16, member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Ladies Aid.
Millie was active in many of her children's activities, including her role as a 4-H leader. She was a strong supporter and volunteer who wholeheartedly believed in the benefits Hopeseed Foundation and Diaper Project provided.
Millie's family was her pride and joy. She dedicated herself to her family. She was a faithful, caring and supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Millie loved to provide for those around her by passionately cooking meals, baking coffee cakes and desserts, which she enjoyed sharing with many. She also enjoyed vegetable gardening and quilting.
Loving survivors include her children, Gary (Sheri) Dost of Shawneetown, Karen (Darrell) Aufdenburg of Shawneetown, Ken (Terri) Dost of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Neal (Kim) Dost of Shawneetown; son-in-law, Steve (Debbie) Chapman of Cape Girardeau; 10 grandchildren, Amanda (Greg) Craft, Jeff (Magin) Chapman, Dr. Jamie (Mike) Harrison, Ashley (Chris) Stark, Zach (Sarah) Nolan, Taylor Nolan, Alexa Dost, Aaron Dost and Austin Dost; two stepgrandchildren, Erika (Scott) Russell and Lindsey Parnell; 10 great-grandchildren, Isabella, Vincent, Brooks, Paisley, Rhett, Katherine, Caroline, Leland, Greta and James; two great-stepgrandchildren, Riley and Wyatt; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years; daughter, Jean Chapman; three sisters, Edna Mirly, Laura Mueller and Esther Corfiatis; and eight brothers, Carl, Walter, Alfred, Edwin, Paul, Raymond, Herbert and Oscar Mirly.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Virgil Kelm officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown.
