Mila Kay Lohmeier, 75, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, at Southeast Hospital.
She was born Aug. 21, 1945, to Jim and Hazel Langley Hardy in Cape Girardeau and grew up in Essex, Missouri. She was baptized in 1958. She confessed her faith in the rite of Confirmation in 1969.
Mila earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Southeast Missouri State University.
Mila was united in marriage to John Lohmeier on July 21, 1967, at Essex. They were blessed with a son, Jimmy. Mila was a member of Scriptural Evangelical Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills.
Mila worked at KFVS and then taught music at Hawthorn and Franklin elementary schools in Cape Girardeau, after which she taught music at Nell Holcomb School for 23 years, retiring in 2000. Mila gave piano lessons for many years. She faithfully served as organist and choir director at Scriptural Lutheran Church from its beginning in 1969 until illness forced her retirement in 2005. She believed it was her special calling to cheer her fellow dialysis patients. Mila enjoyed collecting angels, jigsaw puzzles and listening to audio books.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy (Tracy) Lohmeier of Cape Girardeau; and grandchildren, J.B. Lohmeier and Caroline Lohmeier of Cape Girardeau.
Mila was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Hardy, in childhood; her parents and her husband, John Lohmeier, on April 17, 2018.
Visitation was Monday at Scriptural Evangelical Church in Egypt Mills.
Funeral followed at the church with Pastor Mark Rogers officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to the church.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
