Lawrence "Mike" Mitchell Rhodes, 71, of Whitewater passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born April 16, 1949, near Whitewater and was raised by his great-aunt and great-uncle, Agnes and George Rhodes. Mike was a 1967 graduate of Delta High School. Lawrence "Mike" Mitchell Rhodes, 71, of Whitewater passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 16, 1949, near Whitewater and was raised by his great-aunt and great-uncle, Agnes and George Rhodes.

Mike was a 1967 graduate of Delta High School. He entered the U.S. Army March 26, 1969, and was stationed in Germany training troops in artillery. He was honorably discharged Dec. 29, 1970.

Mike and Brenda Lee Ledermann were married July 18, 1970. Two sons were born to their union, Allen and Tim. Mike dearly loved his family, and they enjoyed many happy times together. He and Brenda had been married nearly 47 years, when she passed away Feb. 1, 2017.

Mike worked 40 years at Spartech Plastics in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 2012. He was a member of Bethlehem General Baptist Church in Crump, also serving as a deacon.

He was an avid fisherman.

Loving survivors include two sons, Allen (Ashley) Rhodes of Gordonville and Tim (Jamie) Rhodes of Sikeston, Missouri; six grandchildren, Hailee, T.J., Alex, Aiden, Adelyn and Aleena; four siblings, Ted Rhodes, Imogene Miller, Betty Hall and Mary Macke.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Paul Dean Rhodes.

A private visitation and funeral service will be held at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Private interment and military honors will follow at Stroderville Cemetery near Whitewater.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Bethlehem General Baptist Church in Crump.
