David "Mike" Engelmann, 77, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at his home.
He was born Oct. 8, 1942, in Cape Girardeau to Rudolph and Verna Mills Engelmann. He and Clara Warren were married Oct. 18, 2003, in Cape Girardeau.
Mike was a graduate of College High School. He was a deputy sheriff for the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department for 15 years, worked at SEMO Ready Mix for 20 years, worked at Southeast Hospital as a security guard for five years and most recently worked at Auto Tire and Parts for five years.
Mike enjoyed fishing, working on tractors, gardening and visiting with people. He was always in the middle of a good word-search puzzle or just "piddlin'" around. He was a member of Maple United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Engelmann of the home; son, John (Tracy) Abernathy of O'Fallon, Missouri; daughter, Tish (Robert) Ice of Wappapello, Missouri; sister, Carolyn (Gene) Vandevan of Fort Myers, Florida; grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Abernathy, Bobbi Martin, Dustin Miller, Rachel White, Chance Abernathy and Jacob Abernathy; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeff Estes officiating. Burial will follow at Hobbs Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Maple United Methodist Church, Safe Harbor Animal Shelter or a charity of choice.
