Harold Michael "Mike" Davis, 69, of Cape Girardeau joined his parents and beloved daughter, Brandy, in heaven Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was born Sept. 7, 1944, in Cape Girardeau, to Harold R. and Freeda Wright Davis. He eloped and married the love of his life, Jean Penick, Dec. 17, 1965, in Dresden, Tennessee.

Mike graduated from Central High School in 1962. He attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and Southeast Missouri State University.

He served more than three years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wright.

Mike was a cost estimator 10 years at Burkart-Randall in Cairo, Illinois. He spent several years in the oil fields of Oklahoma and Texas as an oil-well cementer, and as a highway construction worker in Houston. He finished his work career as a commercial truck driver.

He was the proud father of three children, Michelle (Gary) Wren, Shawn (Jennifer) Davis and Brandy (Wes) Campbell, and was an equally proud grandfather of four, Shad and Shelby Wren, and Garret and Grace Davis.

There is no visitation.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hobbs Chapel Cemetery, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Military rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials go to Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary or the American Cancer Society.

Mike was known as a guy with a joke or a story to tell. He loved to make people laugh.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
