Michael S. Zoellner, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at the Missouri Veterans Home, surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He lost his long hard fight with glioblastoma. He was born Aug. 20, 1946, in Cairo, Illinois, to Delbert Joseph and Mary Doris Winger Zoellner. Michael S. Zoellner, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at the Missouri Veterans Home, surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He lost his long hard fight with glioblastoma.

He was born Aug. 20, 1946, in Cairo, Illinois, to Delbert Joseph and Mary Doris Winger Zoellner. He and Diann Crawford were married Nov. 15, 1967, at Sikeston, Missouri.

Michael was a 1965 graduate of St. Henry's High School in Charleston, Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1968.

He worked for Noranda Aluminum from March 1976 to February 2010 (34 years).

He attended St. Mary's Cathedral.

Michael enjoyed woodworking, landscaping and building homes. Fall was his favorite time of the year.

Survivors include his wife, Diann Zoellner of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Lisa (Chris) Gullette and Kim (Adrian) Eftink, both of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Stephen Gullette, Clayton Eftink, Megan Gullette, Lauren Eftink and Emma Gullette; one brother, Martin Zoellner of Wildwood, Missouri; four sisters, Rosemary Earl of Cape Girardeau, Suzanne Lee of Charleston, Missouri, Beth Dill of Huntsville, Alabama, and Sarah Turnbow of Jackson.

Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Rayappa Chinnabathini officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau. Graveside rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
