Michael James Zimmer, 25, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Feb. 28, 1985, in Cape Girardeau, to James and Lori Morgan Zimmer.
Growing up, Michael's love was always playing sports but he chose to play football and the sport he was most passionate about, basketball, in high school. He was the starting tight end and a member of the basketball team for Central High School throughout his high school career.
Michael graduated from Central in 2003, moving on to St. Louis University where he received a bachelor of science in 2007. Michael attended law school at his alma mater, St. Louis University, where he graduated earlier this year. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church.
Survivors include his parents, James and Lori Zimmer; a sister, Margaret Zimmer; a brother, Mark Zimmer; grandparents, Dr. Willard and Diane Morgan and Patricia Zimmer, all of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jerome Zimmer.
Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Parish prayers will be at 6:30.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
