Michael Lee Spicer, 56, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born July 16, 1958, in Cape Girardeau, to Leonard Samuel and Mary Ella Thompson Spicer. He and Linda LeSure Spicer were married in 1978 in Cape Girardeau. She passed away in 2010.
Michael was in the Marine Corps for 10 years. He was well known for being a great chef. He owned and operated Sam's Barbecue in Cape Girardeau for two years. Michael worked as chef for Holiday Inn for many years, and was barbecue chef and pitmaster for Port Cape Girardeau in Cape Girardeau from 1984 until his death. Port Cape was his home away from home as he loved everyone and they loved him.
He was a great father and grandfather and will be missed very much.
He was a member of Greater Dimension Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Jackson of Cape Girardeau and Charlita Nicole McRae of Conyers, Georgia; two sons, Demetrius Willis and Clayton Willis, both of Cape Girardeau; two brothers Leonard Spicer of Jackson and Richard Wayne Spicer of Cape Girardeau; and eight grandchildren. He also is survived by his former wife, Linda Willis Spicer of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd R. Spicer; his father, Leonard Samuel Spicer; his mother, Mary Ella Spicer; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jerome Jenkins officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family to help with funeral cost.
