He was a past member of the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge 639 and the SEMO Harley Owners Group.

He loved to cook, entertain his friends and ride his Harley. He loved his country and his God, and he never met a stranger, making friends wherever he went. He was charming, kind and a great joke teller. Everyone has a favorite, funny story with Smitty as the main character. He will be missed.

He is survived by his sister, Connie Ghere; niece, Sami Plummer; and nephew, Seth (Wendy) Nelson. He is also survived by his IBM and Cape Girardeau friends, as well as several lifelong friends, all of whom he considered his family.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held at a future date.
