Michael Harry Long, 71, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at his home after a long-term illness. He was born April 6, 1947, in Cape Girardeau the son of Harold and Mildred Carter Long. He married Vicki Young on Aug. 22, 1983. Michael was a 1965 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. He was an excellent golfer in his youth and into his high school years, where he was a member of the Cape Girardeau Central State Champion Golf Team...

Michael Harry Long, 71, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at his home after a long-term illness.

He was born April 6, 1947, in Cape Girardeau the son of Harold and Mildred Carter Long. He married Vicki Young on Aug. 22, 1983.

Michael was a 1965 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. He was an excellent golfer in his youth and into his high school years, where he was a member of the Cape Girardeau Central State Champion Golf Team.

After high school, he continued in the golf industry by participating in both country club facility management and teaching, as both a golf instructor and club professional in Florida and Missouri. He also participated in the Senior Professional Circuit in Florida.

He devoted his later years as a highly rated golf instructor to many young golf students and college sports enthusiasts.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Vicki Long of Cape Girardeau; his son, Michael Carter Long of Hartselle, Alabama; a stepdaughter, Laura Putnam of Kansas City, Missouri; two stepgrandchildren, Riley and Emmie Putnam of Kansas City; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral plans will be private.
