Michael Wayne Ates, 73, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at Southeast Hospital. He was born March 18, 1948, in Cape Girardeau to Lester and Ramona Hill Ates. Michael Wayne Ates, 73, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born March 18, 1948, in Cape Girardeau to Lester and Ramona Hill Ates.

Michael was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Hobbs Chapel. Michael enjoyed hunting, mowing, taking care of his chickens, collecting, and working on tractors.

He is survived by his brother, Steve Ates; sisters, Diane (Rodger) Mouser and Shirley Ates, all of Cape Girardeau; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Kevin Ates.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hobbs Chapel with Pastor Brian Cates officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hobbs Chapel, 3024 State Highway 177, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
