FROHNA, Mo. -- Meta Sylvia Petzoldt, 99, of Frohna died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville, Mo.
She was born Dec. 17, 1914, in Frohna, daughter of Paul and Martha Weinhold Lueders. She and Marvin "Tommy" Petzoldt were married Oct. 10, 1937. He preceded her in death Feb. 10, 1995.
Meta and her husband founded East Perry Lumber Co. at Frohna in 1942. She was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church, being baptized, confirmed and married there. She was a member of its Ladies Aid and Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and a past member of the choir.
She loved and was noted for playing piano by ear. She also enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, a good game of pinochle and watching "The Lawrence Welk Show." She was a resident of and had many friends at Independence Court Assisted Living in Perryville since February 2008. Only a few weeks ago, she celebrated her 99th birthday there surrounded by family and friends. She entertained the group, as she did many times, with her piano playing.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin P. (Aileen) Petzoldt and Stanley (Pat) Petzoldt of Frohna; a daughter, Grace (James) Schmit of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; a sister, Helen Lutz of Arlington Heights, Ill.; a brother, Theophil Lueders of St. Louis; eight grandchildren, Todd (Tammy) Petzoldt, Troy (Julie) Petzoldt, Victoria (Mike) Schuessler, Chad (Kirsten) Schmit, Matthew (Karin) Schmit, Andrew (Denise) Schmit, Natalie (Tim) Sprink and Thomas (Abby) Petzoldt; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters, Viola Hemmann, Lillian Leimbach and Martha Hemmann.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 6:30 a.m. until time of service Friday at Concordia Church.
The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Rod Benkendorf officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church, United in Christ Lutheran School, Saxony Lutheran High School or the charity of your choice.
