Meta W. "Dean" Overbey, 81, of Cape Girardeau died on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at her home. She was born Sept. 12, 1921 at Ethel, Miss., daughter of John Edward and Lillie Mae Ward Crow. She and Leonard Overbey were married June 24, 1939, at Etowah, Ark. He died June 8, 1973...

Meta W. "Dean" Overbey, 81, of Cape Girardeau died on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at her home.

She was born Sept. 12, 1921 at Ethel, Miss., daughter of John Edward and Lillie Mae Ward Crow.

She and Leonard Overbey were married June 24, 1939, at Etowah, Ark. He died June 8, 1973.

She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church and past member of the First Baptist Church in Sikeston, Mo. She was director of the nursery at the Sikeston church for 25 years. She worked for J.C. Penney in Sikeston from 1974 to 1986. She lived most of her life in Sikeston, moving to Cape Girardeau in 1991.

During World War II she worked as a riveter, making Corsair and Thunderbolt fighter planes at assembly plants in Evansville, Ill.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Overbey of Cape Girardeau and Dennis Overbey of Savannah, Mo.; a daughter, Ramona Clark of Hardin, Ky.; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.
