MERRELL SCHAFER

PUXICO -- Funeral service for Merrell Schafer of Collinsville, Ill., will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home in Collinsville. The Rev. Kerry Courtney will officiate, with burial in Lake View Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Fairview Heights, Ill.

Schafer, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born Aug. 15, 1910, at Puxico, daughter of Henry and Alberta Wright Lewis. She married Harold E. Schafer Sr., who preceded her in death.

Schafer was a member of Collinsville Senior Citizens.

Survivors include a son, Harold Schafer Jr. of St. Louis; a daughter, Phyllis Battoe of Worden, Ill.; two sisters, Betty Blackwell and Helen Summers of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
