ANNA, Ill. -- Merl Kimmel, 80, of Anna died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at the Illinois Veterans Care Center in Anna. He was born Jan. 9, 1917, at Wolf Lake, son of Manuel H. and Norma A. Lindsey Kimmel. He married Josephine Kelloug in 1950, at Lincoln. She died in 1990...

ANNA, Ill. -- Merl Kimmel, 80, of Anna died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at the Illinois Veterans Care Center in Anna.

He was born Jan. 9, 1917, at Wolf Lake, son of Manuel H. and Norma A. Lindsey Kimmel. He married Josephine Kelloug in 1950, at Lincoln. She died in 1990.

Kimmel attended Wolf Lake High School. He served as a cook in the Army during World War II. Following the war, he was employed as a cook at the Veterans Retirement Home in Medford, Ore.

He moved back to Illinois in 1992. He was a member of Anna VFW Post 3455.

Survivors include four sisters, Beulah Hill, Carrie Hill and Alma Linson, all of Jonesboro, and Gloria Schaeffer of Anna.

He was preceded in death by a sister and brother.

Visitation will be at the funeral at 3 p.m. today at the Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna. The Rev. John Cripps will officiate, with burial with military honors by Anna VFW Post 3455 in the Anna cemetery.
